The Ventura Pirates lost a heartbreaker Saturday night against Chaffey College resulting in a 10 – 12 loss, which makes Ventura 2 – 2 for the season.
“We lost to Ventura today. I still believe we’re the better team,” said Coach Mooshagian after a tough home loss. Ventura made mistakes that really cost them the game.
“We gave them a couple easy scores off a couple blown coverages,” said Coach Mosshagian. Ventura had the ball on the three yard line when they were called for an illegal shift making Ventura attempt a 33 yard field goal that sailed wide right.
Near the end of the third quarter Kentrell Everett intercepted a pass for a pick six giving Ventura their first lead all game 10 – 6 over Chaffey with five minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Chaffey answered back with a quick score and Ventura had one last drive with two minutes and forty five seconds left to win the game. Ventura drove the ball down the field and put their kicker David Brown in field goal position with twenty seconds left to win the game.
Brown shanked the last kick and Ventura fell to their second straight home loss. “We cant put it all on the kicker,” said starting running back Michael Davis.
“What we need to do is improve on the little things,” said Davis. Ventura is 2 – 2 and travels to Pasadena next week. This will be a tough test for Ventura as they have three straight road games. This will show how tough Ventura is and it will be a real test for the Pirates.
