I used to be a big fan of going to the movies. It’s a classic experience. But movie theaters have become intolerable in recent times due to intolerable people and the overabundance of advertising.
First off, there’s the obvious: prices. I recently went to a certain movie theater which will go unnamed where I had to pay ten dollars to get in. Ten dollars! For a little more than that and in some situations less than that, I could by a movie on DVD and watch it as many times as I like.
Plus, how often do we have to watch five or ten minutes of commercials before we even get to see the trailers?
You’re telling me I have to pay ten dollars to watch Pepsi commercials? That’s just ridiculous!
Another thing and this I find even worse, is the absolutely unbearable people who make up the audience around you. I always find it amazing when people bring their infant children into a really loud action movie. Seriously, what do you think is going to happen?
Then there’s people who are coughing up a lung the entire movie, people laugh at inappropriate moments which results in you missing important lines in the film and one of my favorites, the guy who has to get up to and leave the theater several times during the movie.
While watching the aforementioned recent movie there was an individual sitting a few seats away from me who had to get up, walk in front of me, leave the theater and come back to his seat at least three or four times.
So I have been reduced to going to movie theaters on Tuesdayor Wednesday nights after 10 p.m. Why?
Because that’s the only time I can get a movie theater to myself and a couple friends so that I can actually sit down and enjoy a movie! Why can’t people just go to the movies and respect other people’s desire to sit back and actually enjoy the movie that they just paid WAY too much money to see? Come on, cut me some slack!
