It has become a fairly well known fact that college students don’t practice the healthiest eating and living habits.
The Moorpark College Health Center is offering many programs to promote the National Nutritional Month campaign in March to help students focus on healthier lifestyles.
“We try to make health services available to students, staff and faculty,” said Sharon Gibbs, Health Educator of Moorpark College’s Student Health Center.
The SHC has hired three nutritionists from CSUN to give free health consultations. They will be at Moorpark College until May 9, advising students about healthy eating, living, and providing cholesterol checks.
Seeing a nutritionist can be quite expensive, but the three nutritionistsat Moorpark are offering their services free of charge.
“Most everything we try to offer students is free,” said Gibbs.
Most students don’t realize the many benefits available to them at the Moorpark College Student Health Center. Students can get information and assistance on eating disorders, safe sex and even get regular medical checkups.
One program known as QUIT is set up to help people get over smoking. Anyone who wants to sign up for QUIT will be offered free nicotine patches, gum and lozenges.
The SHC will provide health coverage for those who are uninsured. Students can get medical, dental and vision coverage. If the SHC can’t help a student, they’ll offer a referral to another provider.
