A new Student Trustee for the VCCCD Board of Trustees will take her seat beginning on June 1 as a result of the student elections on April 5 and 6.
Tanya Pulley, who is currently the Moorpark College Associated Students director of public relations, will take over the position that is held by Brian Lovatt.
Lovatt, who was running for re-election, was beaten out by a final tally of 436 votes to 183 votes. Lovatt’s running platform was to continue to fight for student rights and to improve the districts image while having a balanced budget.
Pulley, meanwhile, plans to stay updated with pertinent issues regarding students, while using the information to make a change to unify all three campuses, allowing the student voice to be heard.
Jeff Matt was able to retain his title of President during the elections at Ventura College. Nicolette Geluz will be the new Vice President, while the senator will be Desiree Lautman.
At this point Matt has two plans for his term. He wants to give more money to the Women’s Re-Entry Center to buy more books to generate to the student, as well as put in another vending machine in East Campus.
“One thing I learned this semester is to make sure we are all on the same page,” said Matt. “We each have our own ideas but it’s important that we work together as a whole.”
The newly elected Oxnard College Student President is Jose Luis Hernandez, while Robert Arroyo will serve as vice president.Erica Landa Flores was elected secretary.
Other election positions were treasurer, won by Laura Chacon, and public relations officer, which will be held by Edgar Cruz.
“I would like to get the community involved more with our campus activities,” said Hernandez. “I believe the only way our college can succeed is with the support of not only the students, but of the community as well.”
