Surrounded by the support from LA Pierce fans, the Raiders second meeting with the Brahmas, proved that the rivalry is hotter than ever between these two teams. Feeding off the crowds enthusiasm, Pierce avenged it’s loss earlier this season to Moorpark with a 3-1 victory.
At the beginning of the first set Moorpark was starting to roll and it looked like Pierce would be no match for them. But costly mistakes allowed Pierce to roar back and tie the match. It became a seesaw battle until the Raiders won the first match with a kill.
From that point on Pierce took control and never let go. At times Moorpark made it interesting with saves and digs by freshman Aaron Hedland and sophomore Micah Walters helping to keep the Raiders in contention while Kevin McClure contributed with many blocks and kills.
Various tactics by the defending state champions were met with unyielding determination by Pierce players and in the end the Brahmas would prevail with a final score of 28-26, 21-25, 20-25, 22-25. The next three games for the Raiders (9-3) will be played at home with the first against Santa Barbara City College tonight at 6:00 p.m. They face Santa Monica City College on April 7 and Long Beach City College April 19.
