One local organization is offering a deal that Ventura County Community College students won’t be able to refuse. The Ventura County Community Foundation (VCCF) is currently offering a plethora of scholarships for students of all backgrounds this spring.
The scholarships are funded by individuals and organizations around the county who want local students to succeed in obtaining a college education. The VCCF is planning to post their 2009 scholarship guidelines, as well as official application forms, on their website by mid-November, Program Manager Virginia Weber said.
“I encourage all potential applicants to review the guidelines carefully to determine which opportunities best match their qualifications,” Weber said.
Students have the opportunity to apply for up to five VCCF scholarships. Each scholarship has different eligibility criteria, some are for students majoring in specific subjects and others are more general, Weber said.
In addition, the scholarship winners will be invited to attend an award reception in the spring. Moorpark College will also be hosting a workshop with a VCCF representative who will advise students on how to apply for the scholarships.
“Last year, four Moorpark College students won $20,000 each, and collectively these students won over $100,000 from the VCCF,” said Margaret Ramos from the Moorpark College Scholarship Office. “The students did phenomenally well.”
All students are encouraged to apply. Application packets will be available Nov. 14 both online at www.vccf.org/scholarships.html and at the scholarship office, Ramos said. The application deadline for all VCCF scholarships is on Jan. 16, 2009.
