Moorpark College driving range is a place for students, faculty and members of the public to hit a bucket of balls or improve their swing.
The driving range features a putting green, sand bunker, practice green, and a grass tee that is open seven days weeks. The range also offers discounts for students and faculty of Moorpark College. The discount prices are $6 for a large bucket and $4 for a small bucket. For the public the cost is $7 for a large bucket and $5 for a small bucket.
Despite it’s many features the driving range is underused. One of the operators of the range Rob Wagner feels the problem is that many people do not know about the range; or they don’t know it’s open to the public. The other problem according to Wagner is that the range was not well taken care of by the previous owners.
“No ones knows about it (or they) think it’s not open to the public,” said Wagner.
The range, which is open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. has done many things to revitalize the range. One thing being done to get people to go to the range is a series of theme nights.
This includes happy hour on Mondays from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., in which large buckets cost $5. There are also senior nights where seniors pay $5 for a large bucket. Thursdays are ladies night from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where women pay $5 for a large bucket and $3 for a small bucket. These are among other theme nights.
The Driving range is located right by the campus police station at Moorpark College and is in walking distance from all classes offered on the Moorpark campus.
