In past years Moorpark College has held all kinds of stellar poetry readings, but not yet has it experienced Poetri, the critically acclaimed Tony-award-winning poet made famous by Russell Simmons’ HBO series hit “Def Poetry Jam Presents.” That is until now.
Poetri will be adding Moorpark College to his list of tour dates this fall with a performance scheduled for Thursday, September 15 at 4 p.m. in room 114 inside the music building.

Poetri will be the first performer to participate in the poetry reading series since Kurt’s reading on August 31 in the new library. Time Magazine gave a nod to Poetri as one of the individuals helping to unite the two worlds of Broadway and hip-hop. Pat Payne will be reading on Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. in room 126 inside the new library. Other featured poets of this semester’s poetry reading series are Katerina Canyon who will be reading on Oct. 19, and Crystal Irby whose work can be heard on Nov. 16. Each event following the Sept. 15 performance will feature an open mic for those who are interested in sharing their poetry with event audiences.
