On Oct. 30, Ventura College Student Government hosted a Halloween casino night to support clubs at Ventura College.
Spreading the word about the big night was student government’s public relations director, Maeghan Owen.
“The biggest thing we hope to do is to bring awareness to students about what clubs are out there,” Owen said. “Really, it’s for them to get to know the clubs”.
Selling raffle tickets prior to the event, clubs then gathered to sell food and drinks. Being a fundraiser for motivated clubs, the club with the most raffle tickets sold received an award-winning prize.
The first stand students would encounter as they walked in the door was that of a new club named S.A.G.E, or Student Arts Guild Evolving. Representing the group was club leader Linda-Marie Monier.
“This event is great for all the clubs that we have here tonight,” Monier said. “What is special for our club is that it is brand new.”
With over 3,000 students in the art department at Ventura College, Monier was hoping to inform students about the new club and support striving artists.
The floor consisted of games like blackjack, roulette, poker and craps. The raffle awarded prizes like gift cards to the VC bookstore and other items for students. The biggest prize was a trip to Las Vegas, awarded to the winner with the most money at the end of the night.
Music major Jennifer Brumit appreciated the casino theme.
“The one thing I enjoy most about this event is you can go into a casino without having to stay countless hours into the night and you don’t have to come home smelling like smoke,” Brumit said.
