With the mid-morning hustle and bustle increasing every semester, the need to control the waves of traffic is for the safety of everybody commuting on Collins Drive.
A traffic light that will be installed at the intersection of Collins Drive and University Drive, said the assistant city engineer for the city of Moorpark, David Klotzle.
“We hope to have the designs done by spring, so they can go out for a bid, but there is no set date,” he said.
The location of the traffic light was determined by the constant study of traffic flow.
Although it does not solve the complete traffic situation, Lt. Steve Kegley of the Moorpark College campus police said it would help out.
“I think it is a very good idea, it is a bad area, especially during rush hour,” Kegley said. “Not only does it help the student leaving campus, it also helps out the home owners living in the surrounding neighborhood.”
Although some people think that the traffic light is a good idea, some people, however, don’t think it is such a good idea. Some think that it will cause more traffic while others, like biochemistry major Nina Nguyen, 18, simply said, “I don’t like it.”
Others welcome the change.
“I think it is a good idea, it’s safer,” said Lee Macute, 21, an undeclared major. “It is hard to see behind those curves.”
But when all is said and done, the main priority of the traffic light is to keep the safety of the general public. For more information call Moorpark City Hall at (805) 517-6200, or go online a www.ci.moorpark.ca.us.
