Artist Gwenlyn Norton spoke on the beauty, passion, and drive behind many different kinds of art as part of Oxnard College’s Lecture Series.
In the lecture last week, Norton discussed four main topics of tools, media, surfaces, and feeling. She showed the audience how abstract the creation of art is, but to not be afraid of it.
“I want them (the audience) to get excited and not be afraid to expose and reveal themselves,” said Norton.
Norton, who spoke at the Oxnard College’s Lecture Series, is a current student at CSU Channel Islands and is an artist by profession. She has won several awards including People’s Choice Award, Award of Merit in Placerville Arts Association, and First Place Cash Purchase Award in the National Orange Show.
During the 60-minute lecture, Norton also showed the audience pieces of her work and asked them to guess what techniques she used on each one.
Norton believes that art is the only thing we can hold onto from the past and is very important for the future.
“Art is the voice to the future,” said Norton.
