Free-flow verse will fill the evening air tonight with originality and emotion for Moorpark College students, faculty and visitors who come to the 5 p.m. open mic poetry reading.
Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend and share their own poetry at the reading in HSS 111.
“The poems are all original – and we’re now attracting famous poets who read their work … so I suppose you could say the poems are famous and original,” said Sandra Hunter, English professor and organizer of the readings. “All open mic poems are original, too.”
This is the second of many poetry reading events occurring this year hosted by Moorpark College and Hunter.
The poetry readings provide a safe environment to expose thoughts and feelings with peers as well as those who appreciate the art of poetry.
The readings began in fall 2004 and have evolved into a following of enthusiasts for poetry and writing. Organized by Hunter and funded through Moorpark College’s Student Activities Committee, these readings highlight the creative and expressive nature of the written word. As in the past, all writers are solicited to attend the evening to read as well as listen to the other pieces showcased.
“This is an amazing opportunity for students to read their work in front of an encouraging and sympathetic audience,” said Hunter. “This also provides an opportunity not only to read aloud, but to have feedback (in the form of applause) from fellow poetry enthusiasts and writers.”
Opportunities are available for reading by contacting Hunter at [email protected] and for listening by attending a free night of cookies and poetry.
