Hey kids, grab your coats and hats, the mosh pit is firing up at the former Dorril B. Wright Center now Ocean View Pavilion in Port Hueneme for October 27.
A battle of the bands is scheduled that Thursday to benefit the Oxnard College Art Club. The bands all hail from Ventura County and represent various rock genres from punk to heavy metal.
Worm Wagon guitarist Tom Foytek feels it is, “An awesome opportunity for us to play an all ages show. Who knew there was this big stage right here in Ventura County by the beach.”
Besides Worm Wagon, bands competing include Los Paranoiaz, 3 Way Conversion, Kama Sutra, Victory 33, Jain, Skywalker, Scourte, Horizon’s End, and last but not least Children of Rock.
“I was thinking, if we are successful enough, the money could go towards scholarships for Oxnard College art students,” said Club President Minh Le.
Helping the Art Club make this event happen are Oxnard Art Professor, Christine Morla, and her sister, Charleen Morla, who works at the Ocean View Pavilion.
Each band gets to play for 15 minutes and will be judged by crowd participation. The bands who get the loudest reactions will be considered to have given the best performance. The band that gets first place receives $500, and a spot in Jam Sessions, a showcase at Oceanview Pavilion to be held October 29.
Second place receives $200, and third place wins a $100 gift certificate good at various local retailers.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $10 presale and $12 at the door.
The Dorril B. Wright Center and Oceanview Pavillion is located at 575 East Surfside drive in Port Hueneme. For more information about this event or future events at the Ocean View Pavilion call (805) 986-4818 or visit www.oceanviewinfo.com.
