Deafening cheers were heard on Saturday night, at a packed Moorpark College Gymnasium where the family friendly crowd was treated to an amazing showcase of basketball talent. The show was put on by the Slammin’ Trickz Freestyle Basketball Tour.
With the thumping of hip-hop music in the background, the cast of players dazzled the audience with no look passes, stunning dribbling, and high-flying slam dunks that absolutely stole the show.
The Slammin Trickz tour features some of the most elite street-ball and freestyle basketball players in the nation. It prides itself on serving its community by performing in smaller local venues to convenience its audience. “It feels good to get the crowd into it,” said Air Dog, a player on the Mad Game team. ” I like to give back to the community.”
The audience is treated to a full 40 minute basketball game and a very entertaining slam dunk contest put on after half time. If that isn’t enough, their is great crowd participation influenced by player interaction, an eccentric play- by -play announcer, and smooth hip-hop beats played by the tours own disk jockey.
The game featured team Mad Game and the famous undefeated Hooptainers who are based out of Venice, CA.
Each team brought their own personality to the court with both teams featuring players with nicknames such as “No He Didn’t” and “The Silencer,” just to name a few.
They were all introduced prior to the game in an exciting introduction ceremony highlighted by “Baby Snoop,” a player on the Hooptainers team riding out on a bicycle when his name was introduced.
The game was action packed featuring a west coast offense style of play, which was full of fast breaks and exciting break away alley-oops. It was a close game all the way through, but eventually the Hooptainers came away with the victory 80-77.
However, the crowds focus was not primarily rested on the game alone. The focus was on what player could jump higher, make the fanciest pass, or which player could bring the house down with an acrobatic slam dunk.
This was evident during the slam dunk contest that was held at half time. The contest caused the loudest roars of the night heard from the crowd and left everyone in attendance asking, how did he do that?
“No He Didn’t,” a player from the Hooptainers squad , whose claim to fame is his ability to dunk over a Honda Accord, stole the show by dunking over Baby Snoop who was perched on top of his bicycle.
This incredible dunk brought the crowd to its feet and the slam dunk judges wasted no time giving the dunk a perfect score, and crowning No He Didn’t the slam dunk champion. ” I can win any contest,” said a confident No He Didn’t. ” Its all easy.”
The Slammin Trickz Freestyle Basketball Tour was a huge hit and left the crowd on the edge of their seats.
The tours show stopping style of basketball has a style of its own and really showcases the players personalities and most importantly their athletic ability.
Once the tour raps things up in 2005, it will launch a nationwide tour, in 2006.. Many of the same players will reamin on the team for the nationwide tour.
