In the midst of high temperatures and tough teams, Oxnard men’s and women’s cross country teams looked to defeat the heat and make an impressive run. The teams both competed at the WSC preview at College of the Canyons.
The men’s team looked to take the lead after one of their star runners Tony Arredondo ended up placing first in the individual competition. As they all say they is no I in team, this was certainly the case for the men’s team. As Arrendondo took first place, his closest teammate was in 15th place. Majority of his teammates barely reached the top forty. The team ended up placing in 3rd and only 1 point away from Ventura College who took second. With many top 5 finishes they look to continue their success.
The women’s cross-country team was looking to keep improving their season as they approached the meet at College of the Canyons. The returning player and key to the season is Delfina Zuniga, who had a strong race finishing 9th place. Her teammates were not far behind, with Ashley Ramirez finishing 17th. The other girls trailed closely finishing in the 20’s and high 30’s. The key was to not leave large gaps between each other and it seemed like the women accomplished that.
They are a team that is vastly improving and have had nothing but success this season. The women ended up taking 4th place, which was better than there Western State Conference rivals, Ventura and Moorpark who took 5th and 6th place respectively.
Both men and women’s teams will run next week at the SBCC Invite in Santa Barbara. This is their last competition before they will run in the WSC finals.
