Inspired by visions of fantasy, life, space, and things beyond the imagination, three young talented artists have been chosen to showcase their creative work at Oxnard College’s McNish Art Gallery starting today.
Andrea Fong, Jacqueline Appel, and Helen Kezios are the creators of the intensive, intricate and mind-bending pieces of art. This artwork will inspire, impress, and stir up the mind with questions about how their work was created and where their ideas came from.
“My inspiration comes from the surf culture, music, and fashion,” said Fong, who recently graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a B.A. in Graphic Designing and Dancing. “One day, I would like to see artists become designers.”
These three young women were chosen during an art show this spring by Christine Morla, an Oxnard College art professor who was very impressed by their talented work. Morla decided to put together a showcase for these young artists in hope that students who attends the exhibit could relate to their work of art. “I like the young voice in their work,” said Morla. “They are inventive, fresh, genuine, and rich in quality.”
As for Helen Kezios, who found her passion for art since she was a young child, also graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a B.A. in Fine Arts. Kezios’s work is inspired by everyday objects such as straight pins and beads to create her stunning masterwork. Last but not least, Jacqueline Appel, the creator behind complicated installations reflects her work through her dreams and inner world. “I did not choose to be an artist,” said Appel. “It chose me.”
The art exhibit entitled “Infused” begins today with an opening reception for the artists at the McNish Art Gallery from 3:30 p.m. to 6p.m. Refreshments will be served and the exhibit is free and open to the public. The exhibit remains through Monday Oct. 24, 2005. The Gallery is open Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 11a.m to 1p.m and also by appointment.
