Coming off a victory of L.A. Mission College, the Moorpark Women’s Soccer team was heading for match-up against rival Oxnard College, who in the past couple of years has always put up a fight against Moorpark.
The Lady Raiders are having a stellar season at 11-2-3, and if the Lady Raiders were to continue that winning season they should not get too confident and overlook the rival Oxnard College.
When it comes to winning games in any sport defense is the key. In this heated rivalry game Moorpark did just that only allowing six shots on goal through the whole game.
The game started off in a scoring juggernaut, but in the second half both teams played very physical and hard nose defense.
Oxnard, though they didn’t get many shots of on goal, capitalized on what they got and in those six shots on goal they ended up scoring on two of them.
Oxnard also played some strong defense. Even though the Lady Raiders had 31 shots on goal going into the final minutes, Oxnard only allowed two of them to go into the net for a score.
With the score tied at 2-2 with goals scored by Brooke Albert and Elyse Rosenberg of the Lady Raiders and both scores by Charlene Robinson of Oxnard College. It came down to the final minutes of the game to decide this one.
It seemed as if the first one to score would win the game to break the tie.
As both teams fiercely battled back and forth it was the Moorpark Lady Raiders who took advantage.
At the 35 minute mark and with their 32 shot on goal Moorpark’s Kellyn Simms kicked in the game winning goal to allow Moorpark to come away with a victory and continue their great season.
With three games left the Lady Raiders best competition is Ventura College.
The Lady Raiders next play Allan Hancock College at home.
Last time they played Allan Hancock College, the Lady Raiders came up with a 3-1 victory, maybe they will repeat that performance at their next game.
The Lady Raiders came away with a slim victory over Hancock College winning 2-1. Also with a big game against arch rival Ventura College at home.
The Lady Raiders came away from the game with a tie score at 2-2.
The past two games improves their record to a outstanding 13-2-4 for the season and 7-1-3 for the Western State Conference standings.
