Visualize your dream designing computer gaming programs, and then expose your artwork to potential employers through the Multimedia Club display gallery.
The new club on campus is offering a free instructional workshop series in some of the most current and popular computer based web design programs, and is open to all students in the Ventura County Community College District.
Students and faculty from Moorpark College’s Media and Visual Arts Department are presenting this series as a way to introduce more students to the creative possibilities in multimedia. The Multimedia Club has already presented two workshops and are planning the third on Nov. 15 titled “Photoshop Magic,” presented by instructor Carrie Smith.
“In the Nov. workshop students will have the opportunity to see some of the cool effects and tricks that can be done with pictures and images using Adobe Photoshop,” said Tim Rosdahl.
The Multimedia club combines computer-based media, performing arts, photography, radio TV, journalism, and the fine arts of sculpting, painting, and drawing, into a single accessible communications club. The club also provides a link for students to a professional type of work experience, and a way for students to expose their work to potential employers on club website art gallery.
“Our schools have so many talented and creative students who are looking to gain experience, and build portfolios, said Tim Rosdahl, president of the Multimedia Club. “We would like our club to a be link for those students to the people in the community who need volunteers or employees.”
On Sept. 18 a lecture on Flash led by Rosdahl attracted students of all ages to discuss their ideas about the future of multimedia. While Rosdahl flexed his Flash power, students took advantage of the situation to ask questions about the program. On Oct. 18 the workshop
featured a session on Dreamweaver offered by multimedia speaker Svetlana Kasalovic, who also serves as a faculty adviser for the club. The December workshop date has not been set nor has the instructor been identified, but the workshop will be on Cinema 4D says Rosdahl.
The club also promotes other resources for members including scholarship information, links to other schools, employment or internship opportunities. The club is open to students from all three campuses in the Ventura County College Community District, and welcomes work done by students in consideration for being posted in the website gallery.
“We are encouraging students to show their art to the multimedia club so the community can view the work of new artists on the web,”
said Vrej Grigorian the Multimedia Club’s graphic’s specialist.
Club meetings are scheduled for the first Thursday of each month, at noon in the conference room in back of the cafeteria. The workshops are on the third Tuesday of the month At Moorpark College in classroom 109 in the communications building.
