The Moorpark College men’s soccer team has finally fallen, losing their first Western State Conference game on Oct. 11 to College of the Canyons, in a 2-0 shutout.
Even though the Raiders conference undefeated streak is over they are still third in the WSC, with a 2-1-3 record.
Despite Moorpark’s scoring trouble, coach Sean Roche feels his offense is improving.
“The team is continuing to be more consistent on the attack,” said Roche.
The Raiders came back Friday with a 1-1 tie against Glendale College. Joe Gutierrez scored the goal with help from Patrick Smith. Stuart Kozlenko had another solid performance in goal, letting only one get past him.
In the Oct. 11 game Kozlenko had two saves but was not able to keep two goals from getting past him.
The Raiders offense was stagnant and was not able to score. On Oct. 7, the Raiders tied in another close one with Citrus College.
Moorpark made the first strike in the first half, with a goal from Carson Chappell who scored off an assist from recent player of the week Patrick Smith.
Shortly after Citrus scored a goal to knot the game up at 1-1.
Goalie Stuart Kozlenko gave his team a huge boost, with a big save off a penalty kick in the second half that kept his team in the game.
Moorpark has had some strong individual performances this season. Smith is ranked 24 in the state with goals scored and 17 in assist, with 7 assist and 7 goals.
Kozlenko is ranked 16 in the state for goalies, only allowing 10 goals and having a goal allowed average of 1.0526.
The Raiders still have a chance of reaching their goal of repeating as WSC champs, with the season reaching the half way mark after Tuesday’s game. They must win their next couple of games to make a strong push for the title.
