Even though the season is just beginning and many games have been cancelled due to rain, the Moorpark, Oxnard and Ventura College baseball teams remain confident and excited about their seasons.
The three head baseball coaches still have a positive feeling about their team, along with a ton of eagerness to get back out on the field and play.
According to a phone conversation with Moorpark College Head Coach Mario Porto, things seem to be working as usual.
“There is no change with the team,” said Porto. “The team is very anxious from the rain and is ready to play. They work very hard, and they are ready to get back on the field.”
Hopefully, that happens this weekend in their second Bakersfield Tournament.
The coaches from Ventura and Oxnard College agree, but they were able to take advantage of the rainstorms in their own ways.
“We go indoors and hit. An ex player helped us get this,” said Oxnard Head Coach John Larsen.
However Oxnard was still affected by the rain.
“The rain still screws you up.”
The future for the Oxnard College baseball team is looking good according to its head coach.
“We are hitting .350 as a team,” he said. “We can go as far as our pitching and catching takes us.”
Oxnard will head out to join Moorpark at the Bakersfield Tournament this weekend.
Ventura College was happy that the rain decided to make an early presence on the baseball season.
“We haven’t played at all,” said Ventura College Head Coach Don Adams. “The rain did allow us to get healthier. We got are pitchers rested, and it is good for a veteran team like ours.”
When it comes to looking ahead for Ventura their head coach remains extremely positive.
“We went 2-0 at home,” Adams said. “We just have to take care of home conference games and steal a few on the road. I am not disappointed at all.”
Ventura will be on their way to Redwood City Friday for the Skyline Tournament.
