Students and faculty that have signed up for the district’s emergency notification system will receive both text messages and phone calls this week as a test of the new system.
District Police Chief Richard DeLaO said that students will have to acknowledge the calls, by pressing a button on the phone or by replying to the text message. The tests are to gather information on how well the system is working and what improvements can be made, said DeLaO.
“We are one of the only districts (in the state) with this system fully operational, and we are thankful for that,” he said.
Ventura College’s test will begin on Wednesday March 18 at 10 a.m. and run until noon.
Oxnard College’s drill is on the same day from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Moorpark College will have its drill on Thursday March 19 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
