The Moorpark and Oxnard College men’s soccer teams both had their seasons end sooner than they wanted.
With playoffs already set this season both teams missed out on reaching the post season this year.
Moorpark could not continue their success from last season and they could not make it back-to-back Western State Conference champions.
Hopes seemed high going into the final part of the season with only seven games left to play. The Raiders did not charge towards the playoffs, but sank in the water, by losing three of their final seven games of the season.
Being a champion last season put a target on the Raiders back and the Raiders. It seemed other teams always brought their best when playing the Raiders.
Moorpark ended up finishing in 4th place in the Western State Conference.
Oxnard took a while to get their season started by losing six of their first seven games. Oxnard came into league play playing a lot better than their previous games and stepped it up when it came to the WSC.
Oxnard had a very surprising season and made a strong push in the Western State Conference by winning four out of their last five games.
Unfortunately this strong push was a just a little too late. That one loss in the last five games against L.A. Mission College who ended up winning the division. Oxnard lost 2-1. If they would have won that game it would have set up a tie for first place.
Oxnard would have had the advantage by defeating Mission twice, but fate had a different path for this team.
The road for Moorpark took a U-turn this season, as they could not repeat as champions.
For Oxnard their season brings hope for a bright future.
Moorpark finished the season at 10-6-4 and 6-4-4 in WSC.
Oxnard finished at 8-9-4 but had a great season with a 7-2-4 WSC record.
Oxnard took some big steps to establish themselves as a team to watch for.
Look for them next year to take the WSC title.
