The Moorpark College Associated Students gave back to its school by approving a $3,300 purchase of three new computers for the Financial Aid Department on Feb. 25.
Although there were a number of departments that could use financial help, the AS wanted to reach as many students as possible.
“This is one of the best ways to help students out—through funding of these computers,” said Ryan Krebs, president of the Associated Students. “There are a lot of demands for funding right now and we just want to do our part.”
The money for the purchase is from the AS savings account, which is funded mostly from student ID card sales.
Tech CAP, the committee which approves all technological purchases on campus, made a list of all departments in need of new technological equipment, the price of such purchases and ranked each department by high to low need.
Though the Financial Aid Department was not marked “high need,” Krebs stressed the AS’ stance on using the money for the students.
“It’s their money. It should go back to them,” he said.
Currently, the AS Board is looking to make another purchase in order to help its students. However, because of the substantial amounts of the other items, the Board hopes that another group or person will step up and match its donation.
