Chamber music comes to Moorpark

By Neville Madan, Staff writer

It is another semester at Moorpark College and the music majors are preparing to perform in the coming weeks. Chamber music is traditionally presented in small groups playing art music.

Performers are hoping to make a good impression on the audience and the head of the music department along with their assistant directors.

James Song is the director and the man in charge of the main event.

“The performances that are going to be played are the flute ensemble, several other compositions, a piano player and a singer, a Brazilian composer, and a Marcello,” says Song.

Song explains that The Chamber Music Concert focuses on how well the students play these instruments and that they are going to perform in different groups instead of one big orchestra.

Speech Therapist Gail Amendt, is one of the performers in the Chamber Music Concert.

“We have been preparing for the Chamber Music Concert since last fall,” says Amendt.”

Amendt explains that one of the challenges that they have faced in preparing for the chamber music, was that students have very busy schedules.

“I am very excited because all of the work we have completed will pay off in the end,” says Amendent.

Pam De Almeida is a counselor at Moorpark College performing in the Chamber Music Concert.

“I have been performing with instruments since I was 12, but this is my first time performing with a percussion group,” De Almeida said.

The Chamber Music Concert makes its debut on April 11, at the Performing Arts Center.
