Interim President Dr. Bernard Luskin graced Multicultural Day with his presence to talk about the world of psychology in “The Psychology of Expectation Management in a World of Worlds.”

This presentation explored the advancement of technology and communication in various cultures of today, as well as the psychological effects that these constant changes are having in our world that is full of many separate and unique worlds.

“You are digital immigrants,” Luskin began. “You all are too old to be digital natives. However, we do live in a time now where distance is [basically] dead.”

Luskin explained that technology isn’t destroying the meaning of physical distance, but instead giving the term itself a whole new meaning in our new, digitally connected society.

In Luskin’s eyes, the internet and social media have changed everything.

“The world has evolved from bricks to clicks,” Luskin said.

Soon there will no longer be “digital immigrants,” so what will be the lasting effect when that time finally comes? What will we revert to if all of this technology and interconnection were to suddenly disappear?

In accordance to questions like these, Luskin said, “The only time a fish notices the water is when it’s gone.”
