Chamber Music “wow’s” audience

On April 7 at the Performing Arts Center, Moorpark was given a magical night of music. The audience was blown away by the pieces of music that were performed by The Moorpark College Symphony Orchestra.
One of the audience members in attendance was Cheyenne Zazula,17-year-old and she who attends Moorpark High School.
“I really enjoy coming to these concerts and my plans are to transfer to a four year, mainly Chico State,” Said Zazula.
Other students who were in attendance on Friday night were there because they needed extra credit to improve their grades in their music courses. Brian Sezgin, undeclared major, praised the performers for their efforts into the songs.
“When [they] were performing the songs in the concert, they were basically telling a story about what the song was all about,” says Sezgin. “It was really well done.”
“It was an all around nice concert to attend and it was my first ever concert that i have attended,” Sociology major, 19, Cameron Clancy. He also says that he needs the extra credit to get ahead in his music course.
The pieces that were played in the first half were, “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”, “Basin Street Blues” and “Autumn Reunion.” These were performed by Lori Carta, Cari Craig, Paulie Davis, Lauren Cho, Ken Dayton. Rhondda Dayton, Kathryn Kuby, Joanne Lazzaro, Mary Predmore, Roland Tso and Terry Wolff.
Chuck Fernandez, a New Orleans native, performed some of the pieces that were also featured in a concert in New Orleans.
The first half concluded with Oboe Concerto in C minor, along with Andante, Adagio and Allegro. The performers were Mike Bernard, Barbara Poehls, Liz Watts, Ruthie Kay, Mary Ho, Tom Turner, James Rumenapp, Pam de Almeida, Chad Pendleberry, Mark Kamradt, and Kevin Su Fukagawa.
The second half of the chamber music concert began with Brandenburg Concerto Number Three in G major. The tempos that were performed are, “Allegro” and “Adagio.” The performers were Ruthie Kay, Barbara Poehls, Liz Watts, Tom Turner, James Rumenapp, Elizabeth Lohr-Myers, Pam de Almeida, Chad Pendleberry, Kristen Hall, Mark Kamradt, and Kevin Su Fukagawa.
The next song that was performed was “Sextour Mystique.” It was originally conducted by Heitor Villa-Lobos. Many of the performers that performed in the first half also performed in the second half after the intermission.
After the concert was over, the audience gave the performers a standing ovation for all of their hard work and dedication to the performances.
James song, the director of the show also praised his performers.
“I thought that they put a lot of effort and they should be proud of themselves, said Song. “Overall it was a very good evening.”
