The Raider Pentathlon returning on major’s day
April 18, 2014
Moorpark’s Flex club is looking for participants in the second annual Raider Pentathlon & Exposition (RPX).
The RPX will be held Thursday, Apr. 24 during majors week in the quad on campus.
The event is run by Flex club; Flex stands for fitness learning experience. The group of students are dedicated to health, Kinesiology, and being active. They consist of many Kinesiology majors and those who wish to learn about the fitness industry.
Flex club is extremely passionate about this event, as explained by member Alex Renaud.
“So many people have a small idea of what fitness it is,” said Renaud. “Flex reaches out to everyone, not just gym-rats and athletes.”
The club is advised by Jeff Kriel, a Kinesiology professor at Moorpark. Flex is looking for students and athletes, interested in taking part of five physical challenge events, as well as learning about the Kinesiology major.
“The event promotes wellness and fitness, and makes it fun at the same time,” Alex said.
The event is for a good cause, as half of the proceeds are donated to the Paralyzed Veterans of America foundation, while the rest goes to supporting the club.
The RPX will consist of five events: a joust, tire haul, tire flip, modified hurdles, and battle jacks.
“We want to put on a great event, and foster a Raider spirit at Moorpark,” Renaud said.
Information on the Kinesiology program, and free fitness tests will be offered as well.
“Kinesiology is a rapidly ascending field, in an increasingly unhealthy society,” Renaud said. “Kinesiology students have a chance to reverse that, and provide motivaton, and help people to better themselves.”
The event will be held Thursday, Apr. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the MC quad.
Pre-sale tickets are offered for $10, and the price will increase to $15 the day of. For more information, as well as ticket information contact the club at [email protected].
