Gala event to raise funds for baseball and cross country
August 29, 2014
Athletes, students and the community can support the return of the Moropark College men’s baseball and cross country teams Saturday at the Reagan Library fund-raiser emceed by sports announcer Fred Roggin.
Men’s baseball and cross country teams were reinstated last spring after they were cut in 2012 due to a major budget deficit.
“The purpose of this event is to raise the operational cause for baseball, and cross country,” said Athletic Director Howard Davis.
The funds from this event will help to make sure that umpires, and equipment for both of the sports will be covered for. That is the main reason why they want people to help donate as it will make sure Moorpark are able to make these programs strong as they once were.
The Moorpark community is invited to join the Athletic Department for the gala dinner event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley on Aug. 30 at 4 p.m. During the event, there will be self-guided tours followed by a dinner with a live auction for the attendees.
Davis said students, former coaches and alumni players from Moorpark College are among those attending. In addition to Roggin, former Dodger and Angel outfielder Jay Johnstone will share some inspirational stories from his 20-year career in the major leagues.
The cost for attending is $150 per person. All money for the event will go towards the cost for building the sports programs back up.
