Moorpark College’s Athletic Department hosted an unforgettable night on Aug. 30 with a dinner and auction at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library that raised $40,000 for athletic programs.
The event was held to formerly announce the return of Moorpark’s men’s baseball and cross country teams. Over 200 guests showed their support by attending, few of those people being alumni, community members and Moorpark’s Administration; also some of our local’s finest sport-celebs.
Faculty and staff were surrounded by legends such as Southern California’s top sports anchor, Fred Roggin, and also former professional Dodger and Angel player Jay Johnstone.
Moorpark College’s Athletic Director Howard Davis had the opportunity to present Roggin with a token of appreciation for his services and his amazing speech that filled the room with continuous laughter.
“Fred was phenomenal,” Davis said. “He was just so funny and so down to earth. Everybody loved him.”
While chits were chatting, funds were being raised for the new established teams. All accounting funds are not final for another several days; however, over $20,000 in profits were accounted for that night alone, in addition to another $20,000 from the colleges titled sponsors. Moorpark has their boys-in-blue back and ready to go.
“We’re stoked and we’re set,” Athletic Director Howard Davis said. “It exceeded my expectations. It was awesome!”
Moorpark College is ecstatic to have their returning 2012 Men’s Baseball champs and Cross Country team back for a new year. Bats will be cracking and students will be running. Season for Cross country begins this Fall 2014, as well as baseball in Spring 2015. New leaves start here.
