Student Spotlight: Meet photographer Cody Belichesky
September 21, 2014
Winner of the Student Spotlight contest, Cody Belichesky is a talented up-and-coming photographer whose specialty is shooting model cars. He hopes to one day graduate from the Art and Design College of Pasadena and become a car designer.
“[Model cars] are cheap and a good way to look at cars is from a three-hundred-and-sixty degree angle,” said Belichesky, who is able to name car makes, models, and years with nothing more than a snapshot of a car’s angle.
Belichesky currently has five years of photography experience. While model cars are his specialty, he still maintains diversity in his work. Belichesky has a plethora of images in his portfolio including city and nature scenery, candid shots, and anything that gives him inspiration.
“I’m inspired by anything that is aesthetically pleasing,” said Belichesky.
Belichesky has found success shooting at our own Moorpark College campus, especially around Fountain Hall, but he is ready to travel and shoot anywhere that catches his attention with his preferred Digital SLR camera.
He was first inspired to begin his photography when his father took him to a car show, lending him his own camera. Excited with the opportunity to use his father’s camera, Belichesky found that he had a talent for capturing images on film. From then on, he has found a weakness in experimenting and purchasing new gear to capture his artistic expression in whatever way works. He has found success in using programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Bridge to further his artistic skills.
While Belichesky is not strongly influenced by many photographers, he does admire the work of Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. He admires the boldness of the music as well as the independent approach Reznor takes in his work.
“I always admired the fact that it’s only him up there for Nine Inch Nails,” wrote Belichesky. “He does everything from songwriting to mixing and I am much the same way. It’s all me from lifting the camera, to editing on the computer.”
Do not be surprised if you see Belichesky taking photos of model cars around campus. He is capturing his own form of art and is on his way to becoming an expert in the field of car design. The Student Voice wishes him all the luck in his future endeavors!
