As Raiders ran out to the field, spirits were high to start the game off. The coin was tossed resulting in Raider’s ball: kick-off was made, Raider’s rushed the field.
At the end of the first quarter, Raiders led the Renegades 21-6. Raider quarterback Nick Davis completed two passes: one hand-off to freshman running back, Dontavious Grace, which resulted in the first touchdown made for the Raiders. Second, a pass to sophomore running back Rae’keal Beasley running the ball for about 20 yards, making a strong lead in the first and second quarter. Not to mention a block from sophomore defensive lineman Jared Landseadel against Bakersfield while attempting the kick-off with 8:00 left in the first making the kick unsuccessful.
The game went on to play tag with the scoreboard that left the crowd at the edge of their seats. At the end of the first half the score added up to 21-20, Renegades trail the Raiders.
Towards the end of the third quarter, score being 24-23 with Raiders still at the top, pass by Bakersfield quarterback was broken by Raider’s defensive back Derrick Reynolds turning the ball over to Moorpark at the 3rd and nine.
With 10 minutes left in the third, Moorpark’s quarterback Zach LaBar rushes in for the third touchdown of the game resulting in a 30-26 score; two-point conversion was a success with a continuous lead for the Raiders, 32-26.
Just as the game went on to play back-and-forth scoring, Bakersfield ran their third touchdown to make the score 32-32 with 9:43 left in the third; kick was good resulting in Renegades lead of 32-33 for the rest of the third.
The fourth quarter was the true battle between the Raiders and Renegades Saturday night. Raider quarterback Zach LaBar threw a successful pass to tight-end Cody Tuttle whom has had an outstanding season for himself offensively making the score to a joyous 38-33 with the clock still ticking; two-point conversion was successful resulting in a 40-33 lead for Moorpark with 8:00 left in the fourth.
The war had begun when the Bakersfield Renegades had scored another touchdown with 6:28 left in the game with Renegades trailing the Raiders 40-39. Crowds were cheering on both sides of the field; kick was good with an eerie score of 40-40 towards the end of the fourth quarter.
The Raiders played with determination towards the end of the fourth with another touchdown by freshman wide receiver Jalin Burrell making the score 46-43 with a successful kick resulting in 47-43 with 1:20 left to go.
With 0:15 seconds left in the game, Bakersfield scored the last touchdown of the game resulting in a score of 47-49 and a good-kick from the Renegades.
Final being 50-47, Renegades win the game.
“This game has been anything but normal” said Moorpark College football commentator Wally D.
Raiders fought a good fight Saturday night against the Renegades. According to Moorpark line-backer Safari Bolden, the players individually did well this game, but are looking to improve next week defensively.
With no comments from the coaches, the players left the field with determination for next week’s game against the Pasadena Lancers. As said by wide receiver Jalin Burrell, the Raiders have high hopes for the game next weekend and look to improve in all defensive areas.
“It was a hard one, but we’re going to come back next week,” said Burrell.
Sat. Oct. 25, Moorpark College’s Griffin Stadium is where the Raiders battle against the Lancers for a glorious win and to better improve the record for the 2014 season.
