Lady Raiders win big against Allan Hancock
February 4, 2015
The Lady Raiders basketball team defeated Allan Hancock 65-54.
The Lady Raiders came out shooting lights out as they drove to the rim and kicked it out to an open Ashley Ontiveros. The Bulldogs of Allan Hancock College had no defensive answer for Ashley Ontiveros who had 10 points at the half and Dagmar Ramirez who scored a buzzer beater before the half and had 6 points. The Bulldogs fought back with the help of guards Ali Rodriguez and Nicole DeLaGuerra scoring 9 points each; but the defensive pressure Moorpark brought was too much for the Bulldogs to handle as Moorpark went into the half leading 33-24.
“I had a concussion last game,” said Moorpark guard Ashley Ontiveros. “I knew I had to come out and help my team.”
Moorpark started out a little sluggish as the Bulldogs answered quickly by scoring the first couple of points. Moorpark head coach Remy McCarthy called a timeout to settle his team down and emphasize defense.
Ashley Ontiveros was the star of the night as she scored 25 points including three 3 pointers. Dagmar Ramirez finished with 17 points and Sydney Bennett added 13 points. The Lady Raiders won convincingly 65-54 as their defense was superb which led to many transition layups.
“I was very happy we had come off two excruciating losses,” said head coach Remy McCarthy. “Once we got the lead you can get more selected with shots because at one point we were up twenty.”
The Lady Raiders are now 5-2 in WSC play and will travel on the road to face L.A. Pierce College Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
