Characters of the Shakespeare comedy play “Much Ado About Nothing” came to life thanks to the Moorpark College theater department.
The cast of “Much Ado About Nothing” have a wide range of experience. Some have been acting since they were eight years old. Some just started last year, but they all had one thing to say when they talked about working on this play.
“One of my favorite parts of this play was working with the whole cast,” said Craig Walters, who portrays Claudio the protagonist.
The show, which took place from March 12-14, and March 16, had six people that all played major character roles. The major characters in this Shakespearean masterpiece are Beatrice, Benedick, Hero, and Claudio. Each of these characters were portrayed by students on campus who all had different backgrounds in the theater world.
Beatrice was portrayed by two different people, one being Megan Rackley, and the other, Allie Yanetti. Rackley talked about her favorite scene which was the one where Beatrice, and Benedick profess there love for each other.
“It is a fun scene because we argued back and forward,” said Rackley. “I was able to scream at the top of my lungs which is always fun.”
Yannetti’s favorite scene was the same, but it being the love scene. When it comes to Yanetti’s experience in acting, she started at the age of 11. Yanetti said she has been in numerous plays, short films, and other form of arts. Though one of her favorite parts was portraying Beatrice.
“She’s very witty, sassy, funny, and sexy,” said Yanetti. “She’s a lot of fun to play.”
Benedick, the love interest of Beatrice is played by Remy Muloway and Cory Shackelford. Both have different backgrounds. Muloway started theater when he was acting in high school, while Chris started little over a year ago.
Both said they love the challenge that Benedick brings and they both love the scenes that has Bendick and Beatrice showing affection. Summed up in a whole the fun love that is expressed in the characters through out the play.
Walters also talked about how it was fun to freak out during the wedding scene.
“The wedding scene is so much fun,” said Walters. “I love it. I just get to scream off the top of my lungs, and just yell like crazy. Overall it is just a blast, and something that I had fun doing.”
Hero is portrayed by Tegan Morley, an 18-year-old student from England. Morley has been in numerous performances of several art forms since the age of eight. Morley said that right now she is focusing on acting, but wants to try and focus on her vocal skills.
Throughout her long experience her favorite role was her most recent role of Hero.
“Hero, she was the most challenging for sure,” said Morley.” She is more childish and naive which I can’t relate to at all. So I loved trying to be someone who I can’t relate to.”
The overall cast of “Much Ado about Nothing” look to continue onward in acting for Moorpark whether it’s one acts, or the next big show.
