Superheroes are those who inspire and impact the lives of the people who follow their journey, but that does not only apply to the comic book superheroes anymore, because now superheroes have a much bigger meaning to society.
Steve Pfeffer, Reet Samal, Dan Vieria, and Nadia Monosow held a presentation on the superhero culture and how the culture has effected the world in politics, business, psychology and sociology..
“My interest in super heroes wanted me to do this,” said Pfeffer. ” But mainly it was because of looking at the X-Men with the different races of people on their team. That kind of got me thinking of Multicultural Day.”
Students were asked why do they love superheroes and many commented that it is because they can do things that normal people can’t do. Others said it’s because they can teach you lessons that help you grow over time.
“I think it is amazing how superheroes can effect everything from the different times,” said Moorpark student Cody Belicheky.
The superhero culture has affected politics because most of the writing for current comics are focused on real life issues and how to fix them, according to Pfeffer.
On a sociological level, the superhero is able to show how our lives have grown around superhero culture and how it can effect the human mindset in how we view a certain race or gender.
“It wasn’t until the birth of Wonder Woman that we learned there are deeper meanings in women characters in comic books,” said Vieria during the presentation.
According to Monosow, a lot of the heroes you can look at are great psychological studies because each suffer problems and with those problems, you can relate them back to your own.
When it comes to an economic impact, the superheroes are all over the place. The Marvel cinematic universe has grossed over two billion dollars in the box office. That is only the beginning said Sumal during the conference.
This all shows just how big the superhero culture is in the mainstream.
“It is amazing how much of a reach superheroes have on the mainstream world,” said Belicheky.
So remember true believers, superheroes are always going to be in our lives and the impact they have is ever- growing.
