The time has come when transfer students will have started receiving their acceptance letters and Moorpark wants to honor and congratulate students by displaying their names on the Transfer Wall of Fame and during the Transfer Social.
The Career Transfer Center in Fountain Hall created a Transfer Wall of Fame, so that students can have their name, and the university they are attending, posted for all to see.
“The only way we know where students are going is if they tell us, that’s why we do this event, otherwise it takes two years to get the statistics,” said Judi Gould, the career transfer coordinator. “Plus, seeing students’ success inspires other students.”
According to Gould, there are about 1,600-1,700 students who transfer, but there are only about 500 names that will go on the wall.
“One of the hardest parts is getting students to tell us,” said Gould.
One way the Career Transfer Center encourages students to let them know about their acceptances is with the Transfer Social.
The Transfer Social is a school-wide celebration honoring those who have successfully navigated their way through Moorpark and are on their way to a University. There will be frozen yogurt offered, 10 college representatives who will be available for students to receive information and ask questions, and the opportunity for more students to post their names on the Wall of Fame.
Another import aspect of the event is it allows students to brag about their accomplishment and network with other students who will be attending the same university. There will be sign up sheet, so that people can be connected, said Gould.
In order to have your name posted, you can fill out a short form from the Career Transfer Center. There is also a link online to update admittance, according to Gould.
Geraldyn Chavez, 20, is a psychology major who will be attending Humboldt State University Fall 2015.
“I’m excited about transferring,” said Chavez. “I’ve never lived on my own and I haven’t been that far from my friends and family, so I can’t wait to see how my experience at Humbolt is going to be.”
Chavez said she chose to attend Humboldt because of its small class sizes and beautiful campus.
“The process of transferring was made easy with the support I got from my professors, friends and counselors from Moorpark,” said Omid Nikjeh, who will be studying Human Biology at USC next fall.
Heidi Machhour, 19, and Araya Fehlman, 20, were both accepted into UCLA and will be studying communications and psychology, respectively.
“UCLA has always been my dream school and I am so happy that I attended Moorpark because it gave me the opportunity to transfer,” said Machhour.
Fehlman said she is very excited about getting into her dream school.
“I thought getting into UCLA would be hard, and it has been challenging, but I ranked top of the transfer students!” said Fehlman.
Hannah Woolley, 20, is attending Azusa Pacific University with a Liberal Arts major.”
“I’ve wanted to go to APU since I was little, so it’s awesome to get to attend my number one choice!” said Woolley.
The Transfer Social will be held on May 7th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m and the celebration is open to the whole school, so that the successful students may be congratulated.
