Following this year’s VMA Awards on crack, Kanye West, after he “rolled up a little somethin,” announced a 2020 presidential bid in his closing Video Vanguard acceptance speech.

The opening minute and 43 second applause he let linger, mixed with a hint of cockiness and a dash of drugs, possibly helped conjure up this absurd curve-ball.

West pretentiously announced, “As you probably could’ve guessed by this moment, I’ve decided, in 2020, to run for president.”

It was quite the presumptuous statement to make when considering his earlier rhetoric of just a few minutes prior:

“I’m not no politician, bruh!” West blurted out.

On the Jimmy Kimmel show, Kimmel poked fun at West’s egotistical commentary saying, “Kanye West continues to say the things that are on nobody’s mind; not even his mind.”

If we revert back to 2009 when President Barack Obama outwardly called West a ‘jackass’ for taking Taylor Swift’s spotlight, we can easily catch the hint of sarcasm in the White House’s response.

Josh Earnest, the White House Press Secretary for President Obama, put out a statement that said:

“[I look] forward to seeing what slogan he chooses to embroider on his campaign hat.”

We can speculate the White House may have had a concept such as this in mind:

The Guardian has made West’s “politically charged lyrics,” comparable to how he will manage our countries issues, if voted into office. Anyone who smokes pot on the same evening as their future presidential bid, is unqualified and utterly repulsive.

The expectations for candidates is to be upstanding citizens and free from criminal charges has seemed to have fallen by the wayside. Based on the reaction to West’s statement, the younger generation gives the impression that matters, such as selecting a president to run our country, are taken lightly.

What would the world come to if these absurdities ensue, you may ask? My fellow Yeezus’s: sit back, roll up, knock the edge off, and prepare to face the political roller-coaster that will be 2020.
