The Transfer Admission Guarantee application is open, and this is the time to apply for transfer.
During the month of September, eligible students can apply for guarantee admission into their choice of various UC’s including Davis, Irvine, Merced, Riverside, Santa Barbara or Santa Cruz.
“Even if students aren’t thinking they want to go to a UC, if they’re eligible, they should T.A.G.,” said Transfer Counselor Donny Munshower. “The more doors open to them in the spring, the better.”
The hassle of essays, applications and the college’s impending decisions are nerve-racking. If there is a shown interest in a specific UC, students can feel confident in knowing they have a safety school.
Ashley Walker, a recent Moorpark College graduate, recalled her positive experience with transfer services.
“The previous Director of Transfer, Judi Gould, came to some of my childhood development classes and administered online tests for choosing a career path,” said Walker. “It confirmed I was on the right path.”
Between Sept. 1-30, students who have between a 2.8-3.5 GPA, 30 UC transferable units and are all or partial English and math courses completed, depending on the campus’s requirements, are eligible to apply for guaranteed admission.
Majors that are not T.A.G. eligible vary based on each campus. These can comprise of majors, which are impacted and/or in divisions of the arts. Selective majors require students to have completed degree preparedness courses prior to transfer, and in order to maintain T.A.G. eligibility. These often include, but are not limited to, biological sciences, psychology and engineering.
“As long as you’ve met the minimum requirements, then you’ll get that guarantee,” said Munshower stressing the importance of major prep. “[For major preparation] if you don’t get them done before transfer, for a non-selective major, you can be admitted, but you’re hurting yourself by not getting those done.”
With approximately 15,000 students at Moorpark College, only 151 have begun the T.A.G. application. That’s just over 1 percent of the entire student body, according to Munshower.
He says the major fault students’ make is becoming entangled in the first month of school and lacking the drive and mindset to get started before the application deadline hits,
The Transfer Center will be offering an upcoming workshop to guide students in completing and submitting the T.A.G. application, properly and in a timely manner on Sept 30, from 3-4 p.m. The workshop will be held in room 117 in Fountain Hall.
