The Raiders have now lost six straight games dating back to last season; their latest loss being 38-8 on Saturday at Orange Coast College.

Moorpark quarterback Christian Hammack made his second straight start and threw for the only Raider touchdown of the night. Hammack finished the night 15 of 27 for 155 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions.

Athletic Director Howard Davis was happy with the team’s effort but knows the team needs to work harder.

“We played extremely flat in the first half and made several critical mistakes that led to points,” said Davis. “Our second half effort was better though.”

In the first quarter, Orange Coast quarterback Mason Dossey completed a 12 yard touchdown pass to receiver Stefan Derrick. The PAT made it 7-0 Orange Coast.

Orange Coast’s next score came only 10 seconds after their first score when Derrick Worthy intercepted Hammack for a 26 yard return for touchdown. Orange Coast led 14-0.

At the end of the first, Orange Coast kicker Dan Bjurman kicked a 33 yard field goal to put his team up 17-0.

The second quarter did not go much better for the Raiders. Dossey threw a 15 yard touchdown pass to Darrel Watts to cap off a 94 yard drive. After the PAT, the score was 24-0 Orange Coast.

The final score of the first half came with seven seconds left; Dossey found receiver Derrick again for an eight yard touchdown. After the PAT, Moorpark went into the locker room with a 31-0 deficit.

Moorpark’s first score came with 9:49 left in the third quarter. Hammack found receiver Aaron Lacombe for a 27 yard touchdown. The Raiders converted a two point conversion when Hammack was able to run it into the end zone. The Raiders cut the lead to 31-8.

The final score of the game came with 30 seconds left in the third quarter, when Orange Coast’s Joseph Jackson intercepted Hammack and returned it 50 yards for the touchdown.

In the fourth quarter, backup quarterback Kado Brown came in to attempt to get some offense going for the Raiders. He finished 3-4 for 37 yards.

Davis feels that conference games will still be winnable for the Raiders as long as they improve during practice and execute during the game.

“We have to have a much better effort to win games in this division,” said Davis. “We will have to focus on eliminating turnovers during this bye weeks practice.”

The Raiders have a bye this week and will hope to tighten things up before they start conference play the following week. After the bye, the Raiders take on their rival, Ventura College, for their conference opener at home on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m.
