America’s Teaching Zoo will show their animals to the public and honor actress Betty White at their annual Rendezvous at the Zoo event.

Adults, age 21 and over, are welcome to join the zoo for a night of fun and fundraising on Oct. 8, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be food, wine and many other beverages to keep your bellies full as you watch animals from across the world getting the star treatment.

White will be honored with the Platinum Paw award at the event. She is an avid animal lover and is part of numerous organizations like the Morris Animal Foundation and the African Wildlife Foundation. She has even written a book called “Betty & Friends: My Life at the Zoo.”

During the first hour of the event, there will be a meet and greet for people to interact with the many animals that are on display.

“[It’s] more naturalistic,” said Mara Rodriguez, an instructional technician at the zoo.

Later on, between the times of 7 p.m. and 8:25 p.m., a highlight will be given on an exotic animal for the attendees to learn about. Shows, as well as auctions, will be a part of the night’s event.

Funds will be raised by silent auctions in order for the zoo to better equip itself. All of the money will go to sight improvements, student scholarships, animal medical equipment and completion of the master plan, which is the plan for future development.

If you’re interested in going, it’s $50 online or $60 at the door.
