Moorpark College men’s soccer fell again, 2-0, in the second leg of its Western State Conference matchup against Oxnard College in the Nest at Oxnard on Friday.
Compared with the 7-0 thrashing dished out by the Condors at the Raiders Pitch in September’s first leg, Friday’s result could be considered an improvement. The affects were the same; Oxnard picked up three points, Moorpark got nothing, and the Raiders are back in the conference basement.
According to published reports, the Raiders tenaciously held the Condors scoreless in the first half, despite the home team controlling ball possession 60% of the game.
In the second half, Oxnard broke through with a goal from a disputed penalty awarded against Raiders goalkeeper Daniel Moreno in the 51st minute. Midfielder, Jorge Jiminez converted from the spot kick, making it 1-0.
The Condors doubled the score when freshman striker Joseph Hernandez played the ball around Moreno and walked in the second goal, 2-0, in the 61st minute. Although Oxnard dominated play in the half, no further damage was inflicted on the Raiders.
Moorpark College (1-6-2) hosts conference rivals Santa Monica College (5-1-3) in the second leg of its Western State Conference matchup at the Raiders Pitch on Friday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m.
