The newly hired executive director of Moorpark College’s Foundation, David Mirisch, is bringing big things to the college’s fundraising campaign.

Mirisch plans on using the funds gained from events to create more scholarships for students and to put more into special events in the future. The plan also includes helping fundraisers meet their expectations with the sale of tickets and sponsoring in the surrounding area.

“[The] biggest challenge is to go out and get the big bucks, from $25,000 to a million dollars,” Mirisch said.

Before coming to Moorpark, he worked on putting together celebrity events for non-profit organizations, where his role was focused on organization and fundraising.

“The Executive Committee of our college’s foundation selected David as our Executive Director after reviewing about a dozen applications and interviewing about half a dozen candidates,” said Moorpark College President Luis Sanchez. “We hired David because of his extensive experience in fundraising and his enthusiasm for the position.”

Mirisch is excited to see what he can do to take the college’s fundraising to the next level.

“I was planning on setting up a concert on the hill during the spring,” said Mirisch.

Mirisch recently visited some student clubs at Moorpark to address them about getting involved in fundraisers. He believes that clubs could make the fundraising experience much more successful and allow themselves to help the college in the long run.

Mirisch already has plans for Dec. 12 to have a bowling tournament. Starting at 11:45 a.m., Harley’s Simi Bowl will be hosting the Bowling for Bucks event. Tickets are estimated to run around $50, and to purchase a whole lane it’ll cost $250.

On Feb. 27, Mirisch will organize a President’s Gala at the Moorpark Country Club and on July, there will be having a golf tournament. Mirisch also has plans on having celebrities come to softball and soccer games, playing on teams with students.

Mirisch’s company, David Mirisch Enterprises, has produced over 2,500 celebrity events, 150 of them being tennis tournaments alone. He was also once the public relations for Pat Boone and Johnny Mathis, both very well-known singers.

Mirisch would like to establish an alumni foundation for previous graduates of Moorpark College.
