Moorpark football took on Pasadena City College in a road conference game and defeated them soundly, 52-26. This latest victory now gives Moorpark their second win of the season, they’re now 2-5.
Athletic Director Howard Davis was very pleased with the Raiders second half effort as opposed to their first half performance.
“It was a great effort by the entire team,” said Davis. “After a penalty riddled first half caused great frustration, the Raiders let go of the negativity at halftime and came out and scored 35 straight points.”
Moorpark started off first with a two yard blocked punt return for a touchdown by Jordy Henrotin. Moorpark went up 7-0 after the defensive score.
Pasadena answered back with a touchdown strike from quarterback Jett Even to receiver Rasheem Whitfield. With 3:05 left in the first quarter, the game was all tied up.
Moorpark retook the lead right at the end of the first quarter with a 49 yard field goal from kicker Brendon Hodgson, giving them a 10-7 lead at the end of the first.
At the start of the second quarter, Pasadena quarterback Even capped off a quick five play drive with a touchdown pass to his receiver for a nine yard touchdown, giving Pasadena their first lead of the game 14-10.
Moorpark answered back halfway through the second quarter when backup quarterback Kado Brown threw a ten yard toss to receiver KeiWuan Miller to give the Raiders a 17-14 lead.
Right at the end of the first half, Pasadena was able to get it into the end zone again with Even’s third touchdown pass of the first half. This one was to his receiver DaiCorri Briscoe. The PAT was blocked by the Raiders, so the score at halftime was 20-17 in favor of Pasadena.
The second half was all Moorpark as they steamed-rolled to the finish-line.
Brown threw his second touchdown pass of the night when he connected again with his receiver Miller. The score gave the Raiders the lead again as they went up 24-20.
The Raiders got another touchdown, but this time from Brown’s legs, as he ran in the ball from 24 yards out. The score put the Raiders up 31-20 with 8:41 left in the third quarter.
Raider running back Isaish Johnson got in on the running game with his first touchdown of the night. With the nine yard run, the Raiders were up 38-20 at the end of the third quarter.
Six seconds into the fourth quarter, Johnson found the end zone again, this time from 15 yards out. The score strengthened Moorpark’s lead even more, giving them a 45-20 lead.
The Raiders stretched extended their lead even more after capping off a five play 56 yard drive with a touchdown run from Ethan Shahrokhfar making it a 52-20 lead for the Raiders.
Pasadena was able to score one last time in the game when their quarterback Even ran the ball in from two yards out. The two point conversion was no good making the final score 52-26, Moorpark.
Davis was very impressed with Brown accounting for a big win for the Raiders.
“Quarterback Kado Brown was amazing,” said Davis. “He led the offense to five straight touchdowns.”
Besides Brown, Moorpark’s defense and special teams were terrific according to Davis.
He feels that their next game against Cerritos College will be a challenge, but it is a winnable game.
“If we play with the intention and focus we did in the second half on Saturday, we can have a good result,” said Davis.
The Raiders will be back home this coming Saturday with a special kickoff time at 1 p.m. against Cerritos College.
