Following a loss on Wednesday night at Cuesta, the Raider basketball team returned to their winning ways Saturday, Jan. 30, with a 75-68 win over Oxnard College.
The victory puts the Raiders at a record of 16-7 and a conference record of 5-2. The win also gives Moorpark the season sweep over their conference rival Oxnard.
Head Coach Jared Link was happy about the victory, but knew that there were still little details to work on in the future.
“Attention to detail,” said Link. “I think we gave a pretty good effort overall, but sometimes [listening] between the ears and attention to small things, those things mean the most.”
One of the things that Link pointed out that the team will have to work on will be rebounding, both offensively and defensively.
“We’re there, it’s just that offensive rebounds take a lot of willpower,” said Link. “We’re an undersized team which puts us at a disadvantage, but that’s not an excuse, we gotta get it done and do a better job of that.”
One of the team’s leading scorers, guard Josh Brooks, felt his performance in the second half was a lot better than the first.
“I feel like I was decent,” said Brooks. “I should have been that aggressive in the first half, but in order for us to win the game, we had to put the pressure on them.”
The Raiders trailed at halftime by two points and looked a bit more fired up during the second half of play.
Link feels that the team has a good chance to win all the remaining games in the season and in the playoffs.
“I feel good,” said Link. “I feel like the destiny is in our hands and we’ve controlled what we can. We have proven we can do anything we want. It’s just up to the guys in the locker room right now to what they want to do.”
Moorpark’s next two games are on the road against Ventura and Allan Hancock, respectively. The Raiders will return home for a Wednesday Feb. 10 night game at 7 p.m. against Pierce College.
