The Lady Raiders continued to add another one to the win column as they beat Santa Barbara 3-1 in their conference opener on Thursday, March 10.
With this win Moorpark has an overall record of 11-3 and 1-0 in conference.
Freshman Ashlee Vasquez had a big game as she went 2 for 2 with two RBI doubles. Pitcher Caitlin VInyard set the tone for the game as she had 10 strikeouts in the game as it lead to a Lady Raider victory.
Head Coach Dave Fox was proud of the way his team played against their first conference team and referred to the game as a really great routine flawless game.
“With a conference team there’s extra emotion because it is a conference game,” said Fox. “We kinda like to keep it fun and just tell them to go out and play the game by keeping it simple.”
Playing a conference team comes with some pressure and the Lady Raiders are always up for the challenge. Freshman Caitlin Vinyard said they are very much looking forward to these games.
“It’s going towards our record in the season,” said Vinyard. “We are more pumped up I feel like.”
With 11 wins so far it’s no question that this team works well together. Freshman Julianne Rodriguez emphasized on how this team is always there for one another.
“Everyone picks each other up,” said Rodriguez. “When one persons down another person comes up strong.”
The Lady Raiders are back in action on Tuesday, March 15, as they face Allan Hancock College in a double header.
