“Club M Improv,” a high energy performance that will have you on the edge of your seat, is coming soon courtesy of Moorpark College’s Film, Television and Multimedia Department, better known as FTVM.
The performance is a collaborative effort between music, multimedia, graphics, performing arts, set design and film to create an improvisation show that is more than just students performing improvised skits, games, and comedy.
“Club M Improv” will take place Tuesday May 3, at 7:30 in the Communications building room 129. Tickets are now available online or at the door, for $5 each. To purchase tickets please visit the link below.
Graphics students are in charge of designing and creating the poster. Multimedia students work on a video introduction. Improvisation students run through a part of the improv games. A music student integrates a special composition and last but not least, the FTVM students do everything from lights, cameras, on screen graphics, wiring up microphones and band equipment.
The college’s radio station KMCJ will air a live special event show prior where they will interview the improv performers and band members.
Michael Grimes, TV/Radio Production specialist and studio manager, is excited to see the students accomplish so much with such little real-world experience.
“It is really a great testament to the skills the students acquire each semester,” said Grimes. “It shows how well they learn to adapt them into this high pressure event.”
In order to participate in the event, all students, depending on what role they participate as, have to be enrolled in the corresponding class, according to Grimes.
The show is expected to bring in a live studio audience of over 70 people, but with the expanded live webcast it could swell to over 200 people, said Grimes.
With the show right around the corner, Grimes is excited to see an event of this scale come together with the students of all participating departments collaborating together to produce what is expected to be an amazing show.
“I’m a firm believer that the students take away how much work goes into planning and producing the event of this scale, but they find enjoyment and fun in the exercise,” said Grimes.
Being in the business for 22 years now and loving every second of it, Grimes said that if you find a job you love, you won’t work a day in your life.
“I don’t work,” said Grimes. “I come to a place that allows me to play with cool toys and hang out with friends everyday. I want the students to have the same feeling.”
