The stage was set, rows were aligned, and the spotlight was on as each comedian took to the stage to perform their routines.
The Hillcrest Center for the Arts provided a night full of laughter and entertainment with the nonprofit comedic event “#Comedy” that took place Saturday, Sept. 17.
K-Von, a comedian who performed in this event, was thrilled with the overall result of the show.
“This show was really fun,” said K-Von. “It’s great to see the community come out and support.”
The show presented early challenges for the comedians because they had to work with a very diverse age group, but as the show kept unfolding, they accomplished the goal to make everyone feel entertained.
“This audience was very interesting due to the different age groups watching,” said K-Von. “I always say jokes that the audience can relate to and enjoy, otherwise they wouldn’t find it funny.”
A stand-up comedy event is not one commonly shown in the Conejo Valley area. Producer and comedian of the show Julia Jasunas, an Agoura Hills native, shared why she started this event in the first place.
“I wanted to bring comedy to an area in which there is not much to do,” said Jasunas. “Also, many adults don’t want to drive all the way [to Los Angeles] and have to pay for parking and a two-drink minimum.”
Justice Kennedy, 18-year-old criminal justice major, delightfully explained his high approval as an audience member for this comedy show.
“I thought the show was really good, it was definitely worth the ticket,” said Kennedy. “It was really nice to have some big comedians come to a small town to perform.”
Kennedy encouraged everyone to take advantage of this local event that is not normally shown in a small town like Thousand Oaks.
“This show exceeded my expectations by far,” said Kennedy. “The price for this event is cheap, it’s in town, and it definitely beats driving all the way to Los Angeles.”
Charles Caraccilo, 18-year-old premedical major, said he thought the show was very well performed and organized.
“This
show is one I would absolutely go to again and I recommend others to go
check it out, especially for those who have nothing to do on a Saturday
night,” said Caraccilo. “This show wasn’t too long or too short. The
length of it was just right”.
Caraccilo said he enjoyed how much he was able to relate to the jokes told at the event.
“My favorite part of the show was when the final comedian [K-Von] started talking about first dates,” said Caraccilo.
“#Comedy” will be taking place again next month and dates are yet to be announced. The show was intended to bring live, quality entertainment to an area that doesn’t receive it that often. Based on reviews and reactions of those who attended this event, it did just that.
