Beginning in June of 2017, two Music and Theatre Arts classes will have the opportunity to travel to London and Paris on a nine-day study abroad trip to gain new experiences and learn the history and culture of each city.
Students enrolled in special four-week summer semester music appreciation and acting classes will be able to go on this class trip, covering six days in London and two days in Paris with dates set for June 5-13, 2017 and covering walking tours, museum trips and visits to major landmarks.
Nathan Bowen, professor of music theory and technology at Moorpark College, is excited about the opportunity not only to visit these cities, but to work their unique cultures into an education.
“To me the real reason to go is just to be in those cities,” said Bowen. “What we try to bring to the table is to make it more than just a tourist trip, we are trying to give students some knowledge about where they’re headed and the history and how it relates to the arts.”
Since this trip is a chance Moorpark College hasn’t offered in years, Bowen hopes for a plethora of students to take advantage of it and make it a successful trip.
The cost of this educational journey is all inclusive, including the round trip travel fare, transportation once there, hotels, etc. and varies by age. The trip will cost $3,784 for students under 30 years old and makes a small jump to $3,994 for students over the three-decade mark.
The other three weeks of these classes will take place at Moorpark College, starting May 22, and can be used to fulfill general education requirements and Humanities and the Fine/Performing Arts categories.
“Having an understanding of and respect for different cultures is a tremendously valuable asset,” said Bowen. “Studying abroad gives one a chance to gain those values in a way that’s hard to replicate.”
