Associated Students are encouraging students to wear blue shirts in a show of school spirit along Raider walk on Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Kristen Robinson, Associated Students Faculty Advisor, had the idea to have a day dedicated to Moorpark College pride after spending a brief four months at Ventura Community College, where orange is worn on Thursdays in support of the school.
“I really liked the sentiment of it; the idea of trying to instill school spirit,” said Robinson. “I feel like sometimes at two years, that just sort of gets lost.”
In order to start up this trend of Moorpark College pride, Robinson suggested to the Associated Students to have Tuesdays become “Bluesdays,” where students adorn their school color throughout the campus. During the event, Associated Students will be handing out free blue candy, spirit gear, buttons, stickers, as well as hosting a raffle in front of Fountain Hall.
Director of Constitution of Rules Jennifer Pezzuto and Vice President Wyatt Kohler took Robinson’s idea and set up the Bluesday event. Associated Students plans to keep this trend going by giving out prizes to students in blue on randomly chosen future Bluesdays. The intended impact is to keep all of Moorpark College alive with pride.
“We’re not just targeting students, but we want faculty and staff to also carry that,” said Robinson.
According to Robinson, Moorpark College has a lot of outstanding characteristics that make it special, such as high transfer rates and a unique teaching zoo program. She stated that the good qualities of our school should encourage students to wear the color with enthusiasm.
