Every semester, students battle the university application process. Students can start applying to CSUs Oct. 1st, and the Career Transfer Center makes sure to help ease the process by offering workshops.
The Career Transfer Center team goals are to help students with all their transfer needs. According to Giselle Ramirez, Career Transfer Counselor, it is advised for as many students as possible to attend the workshops to get as much help as they need.
“What makes our center successful is our amazing team of resourceful and friendly personnel, who make it possible to offer a wide variety of services to our students,” said Ramirez. “Students are encouraged to make an appointment with a counselor, whether in the Transfer Center or in general counseling, as all counselors have access to the same information.”
The Career Transfer Center offers academic and career counseling, career and transfer workshops and university representative appointments for students to utilize. The center at this time of year is extremely busy assisting students with college applications and reviewing UC TAGs. The many options the Career Transfer Center provides makes the transfer process less stressful for students.
The amount of students applying to universities has raised for the twelfth consecutive year, according to the University of California system. The transfer process is becoming more competitive than ever. Ramirez knows visiting the Career Transfer Center as early as possible is very important.
“The most important thing is to make sure they have taken the correct classes to make them most competitive for their major and university of choice,” said Ramirez. “Attending the workshops that the Career Transfer Center offers is also a great way to prepare for the transfer process.”
Students biggest problems throughout the transfer process is filling out their applications, according to Ramirez. The transfer center can help with the application process, and students are encouraged to make an appointment with a counselor to access any information they need.
“A student should start their university application as soon as possible so that if they have questions, they can come to our office,” said Ramirez. “We can help them with the application, or they can attend a college application workshop to get additional assistance.”
Communications major Justin Dombroski, 21, knows the transfer process is a pain to get through. However, the Career Transfer Center is aiding him in the process.
“The transfer center has been very helpful and is making applying much easier,” said Dombroski. “It made things less stressful for me.”
19-year-old Jose Belmontes who has not yet decided on a major, hopes all students get the help he got from the Career Transfer Center.
“ The transfer center taught me how to apply to other colleges,” said Belmontes. “It also taught me about careers and which colleges are the best choice for what i want to do.”
