Clubs have the opportunity receive funds and logistical support from Associated Students, as outlined during the January inter-club council meeting.
“If anyone has events on campus let us know,” said Donna Rahgoshay, Director of Student Organizations for Associated Students. “We can make those dreams come true.”
Activities for Moorpark College students are plentiful on campus due to the close relationship between the Associated Students organization and the clubs on campus. This semester is no different according to the monthly inter-club council meeting for January, which provided students resources for clubs going into the new semester. Students can make use of these resources to grow their clubs and organize events.
“Whatever we need when it comes to facility use forms and dates with working times they’re always on top of it,” said Rachel Shelden, the secretary of FLeX club. “These meetings are informative and keep us on track.”
FLeX, a club focused on health, fitness and nutrition, features events on and off campus such as their Pentathlon, with dates coming later in the spring. Like most clubs on campus they require facilities and logistical support.
The Associated Student’s organization bridges the gap between the school, students and clubs through monthly meetings, providing a forum for clubs or any student seeking to start an organization. These meetings connect them with other students and faculty in order to deliver those resources.
Associated Students also govern the clubs with the goal of keeping them active and expanding roles and opportunities for clubs and students on campus. By providing funds and accessibility the Associated Students can help clubs stay active in their goals.
“Giving them incentives makes it work,” said Rahgoshay. “For us, we want to see more [activity] on campus, and we want to help them get that done.”
By finding a faculty advisor and filing the proper paperwork through the Associated Students, any group can bring something unique to campus. Some clubs have already made their own contributions on campus.
Natures finest created their own garden space with irrigation on a plot of land above the baseball fields. With raised planter beds and an outdoor study area the club has made a notable addition to the campus utilizing resources provided by the school, Associated Students and the hard work of its club members.
Any student can run for a position within the Associated Students. Students can also join in an ambassador position where they would attend committee meetings to provide insight on school events.
Events are always being planned to enhance student life on campus at monthly inter-club council meetings. All are welcome to attend the upcoming meeting on Feb. 20 in the Campus Center Conference Room to pitch a club or event idea.
